Does anyone know how to a refund from the interest of your car and/or house using the 1099?

I was reading on another website that it's possible to retrieve the interest paid using a 1099.  He made it sound simple, but didn't give any instruction on where to begin doing it.  As much as I was overcharged interest on my auto loan, I wouldn't mind getting some of those FRN's back.
