Just a general question for definitions.

When defining legal terms I know Black's Law is authority, however which editions are the best? I know that many people use the older editions to prove the status of the US/USA incorp. So is it best to use the edition that corresponds to the year or effective date of a given law/statute? Or best to use the most modern versions?
