about joint checking account

my friend and i we have a joint checking account and i'm the P.O.D of the account, i have this account number registered and file on my ucc-1 fanancial statement included routing number and all checks number also, can i issue to my friend a promissory note to be deposit in a us account or i have to issue the promissary note to the bank ?
